What Everyone Ought to Know About Web Design Pricing | Pop Stalin Designs’ Design Blog
Robyn came across this article and emailed it to me. Although this frustration is nothing new, it is alway nice to know that others 'feel your pain.' - Just read some of the commentary below the article. So what is a poor web developer to do ?
1. We focus on providing the best possible design, information architecture, content management system, services, and hosting that we can. And then we go after the clients that are willing to spend time and money on their web presence. If we don't, than we end up spending too much time on a relationship that will never truly develop into one that is mutually and equally beneficial for both parties. It's a dangerous situation because if we were to spend only the time the client is willing to pay, we end up with an unhappy client and a poorly built website in our portfolio...Another lose-lose situation for everyone.
2. We also focus on educating our clients with what tools are available to them, how long it takes to develop or customize these tools, and the commitment it will take from their end to foster their web presence. We provide examples of quality blogposts (like this one...:>), well designed web site examples, case studies, and stories of search engine optimization successes.
Even though we are now halfway through 2007, it is still the mindset of many business owners that a website is nothing more than a multipage brochure or billboard staked along side the scenic byways of the information highway. We feel it to be our duty to change this mindset. It is only then that our clients will see that our work is worth $75-$100/ hour.
